The power went our so we got to business with pen /paper anf calculator and were busy during the outage.
It has been a great day here on the island. Plenty of people enjoying fishing. The weather is not the greatest but there were still some nice fish caught. Flounder fishing seemed like our EC mylar rigs, and other mylar rigs did well today. We have some nice minnows and silversides. Some of the Gulp swimming mullet also caught fish today. When the power went out we were busy nothing like working with no electricity. We had a few fish lost in the last break, so there should be some more weighed in tomorrow. When you have a fish close in level out your rod with the surf so you do not bounce the hook out of their mouth. That's all for tonight have family visiting from PA. See you tomorrow we will open once again at 6:30 see you at the shop [b]We have in fresh bunker, live peelers, live minnows, and live seaclams should be delivered by tomorrow afternoon.
Good Luck and you still have time to get into the Surf Tournament stop by the shop fill out a form and get fishing!

Today turned out to be a wonderful day compared to what we have been having. No rain and the wind was not too bad. They have been working all day on the parking lots at the beach, I took a ride this afternoon and took the above pictures. There were a couple of boats who ventured out. Had a few fisherman who had one short flounder fishing near the Assateague bridge. He said any day day fishing still beats a good day at work.

Chincoteague Weather Report
![[image]](reportimages/image2108.jpg)
![[image]](reportimages/image2109.jpg)
The weather has been crazy with constant winds and a lot of rain. The high tides came up and into the roads and up onto docks. This is not too uncommon after a storm like this but we recover quickly around here. There were a few trees down, they were pushed out of the road and cut. The weather looks to be getting better going into the weekend. Tomorrow looks like more wind and rain but after that the winds should subside. We had another productive day at the shop, restocking, paperwork, and had a lot of friends over hangin' out at Captain Steves. It is not rare to see a lot of knowledgable fishermen sitting around and having fun at the shop. That's gonna do it for tonight remember if you need anything we are here for you. See you around..Jimmy
We now have in Hermit Crabs. The season is officially here when Hermit the Crab arrives :)

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. Take a lesson from Mrs. Diane and go fish :)

![[image]](reportimages/image2102.jpg)
Mrs. Diane's 35 inch 15 pound rockfish caught off the surf this morning. Her and Mr. Pat had fresh fish for lunch this afternoon! A great catch for a wonderful fisherwoman!

Chris T. with a 35 inch rockfish off the beach on a ff rig.
![[image]](reportimages/image2101.jpg)
Baltimore Brad caught this black drum on top to of the bar using peeler and 5/0 assateague mod ff rig. He is starting to become a black drum specialist.
![[image]](reportimages/image2104.jpg)
Christopher T. Jr. with a 36 inch rockfish.
![[image]](reportimages/image2105.jpg)
John Kroeger had a good vacation down in Chincoteague. He surf fished the past 2 days and caught his first 2 red drum both pups around 13 inches on bloodworms. He also had 2 nice stripers they were 36 and 39 inches on bunker chunks. The 39 incher was released good karma for the fish gods!!!
![[image]](reportimages/image2106.jpg)
Marie Young with a 22" flounder she caught on a wet, breezy day on the Chincoteague View. Everyone was damp and a little chilly but all aboard caught flounder. There were only 2 keepers, Marie's was the biggest and the other one probably wasn't legal last week but made the 19" requirement today.
![[image]](reportimages/image2107.jpg)
Petra Wesler with 22", 3.3 pounder and 1st mate Gwynn with 19 incher caught on "The View" Sunday morning, Mothers Day. Petra's husband, Dave wants an assist since one of his hooks on his east coast flounder rig was also in the fishes mouth, but Petra's hook with green mylar was in it's mouth the deepest. It was the ladies weekend since they went home with 3 keepers.
Captain Mike" CHINCOTEAGUE VIEW"
It was a good weekend all things considered, wind, rain & chilly temps. There were 5 fishermen onboard Saturday morning, 3 men and 2 women. We caught about 20 flounder and kept 2. One man had 8 or 9 fish using his own rod with a wire T/B rig and plain hooks but Marie had the biggest fish of the day. Sunday morning we had a fishing couple plus 1st Mate Gwynn onboard and more than 40 flounder came over the rail, kept 2, tagged and released 4 that were "legal last year" between 18.5 and 19". Dinner for two back over the rail. The women had the only legal fish, too. Fish were caught on silversides, plain minnows and squid/baitfish combos. East coast flounder rigs, green mylar skirts with beads and spinners(2 legals on those), and plain hooks all caught fish. Most of the fish were grabbing the baits and holding on so patience is needed until the fish eats the hook. Thanks for the Report Capt Mike. Thats all for now..Jimmy
Gunter also lost a nice rockfish in the wash today. Mike brought in a 35 inch rockfish too tonight.

Josh Birch from Chincoetague with a 22 lb. wild turkey
The fishing switched from drum to striped bass here in the surf today. There were a few brought by to the shop and some more caught out on the surf today. Early morning theere were a few kingfish caught at the beach. Seems like most of the fish today were caught on the sandbar. The flounder fishing did pick up a bit today. Heard of a lot of boats with 2-3 keepers. Stacey from De came in tonight they had 12 keepers. The fish are still around you got to just keep at it. It's getting late and I'm just leaving the shop see you tomorrow...Jimmy

Brad and Gunter showing off their catch!
![[image]](reportimages/image2085.jpg)
One more look at this monster Brad caught using a custom Captain Steve's Assateague modified fish finder rig with a clam when this monster hit. Gunter also caught a 19 pound black drum fishing nearby. Gary T. from PA landed a personal best black drum at 40.5 inches. Don Z. caught his black drum and a kingfish in an hour of fishing. Give it a try the fish are out there. We have in fresh bunker, live peelers, and clams for the surf. If you want to go after the kingfish they are also around. The flounder fishing was a bit tough today as the weather was a bit chocolates. The clearest water was found in Cockile Creek. There a few bluefish around at the CV marker right outside Curtis Merritt Harbor. Lot of wind today the wind shifted twice and the water temperature is up to 67 degrees. Tomorrow looks to be a better day with winds at 5-10. We should see a lot more flounder caught. Come on by and get your picture taken. We have in fresh bunker, live peelers, clams, live minnows, and the largest selection of flounder and surf rigs around. See you at the shop.

Chicnoteague Report
![[image]](reportimages/image2079.jpg)
Adrian & Ellen Oliver from Carlisle, PA went fishing with Capt Mike aboard the Chincoteague View on Breezy, wet Thursday morning. Adrian outfished Ellen by about 2 to 1, one of which was this 20", 3.1 pounder. Adrian said that since he caught it Ellen had to cook it but she didn't have to clean it(what a guy!). Fresh flounder tonight...
What a day the rain was on and off keeping a lot of the fairweather fishermen at home. For those who ventured out to the surf there were a lot of kingfish caught today. Still not too many people out there on the beach. John Smith had a bout 6 sharks the biggest being around 4 foot. I took a ride and fished for an hour got skunked. With the help of a few friend I did bring a few kingfish home for dinner tonight. I am usually prepared but in my rush to hit the beach briefly I forgot to bring my smaller hooks. The small EC surfballs are deadly on the kingfish tip them with bloodworms, fishbites, shrimp, and squid to score some of these tasty fish. Boug B. caught his first rockfish 37 inches on peeler and 5/0 mod. ff rig. We are getting some new custom shirts for our shop the artwork is still in progress but you can be assured they will be top of the line. I will have pictures as soon as they come in. Today we also recieved in some...

The Prime Bucktail Jig is not like any other jig on the market. The unique shape of the head and placement of the eyelet help bring this lure to life. With bulging eyes, holographic finish, and blazing color, it puts fish at your mercy. The uniqueness of this bait is that it doesn't fall or hang straight down like other bucktails. It glides through the water, almost swimming along. When jigged, its body stays almost parallel to the bottom maintaining a very natural appearance. Like all SPRO products, Prime Bucktail Jigs are made with durable, super sharp Gamakatsu hooks. Once you fish it, you"ll know why SPRO is the shape of things to come. It's hard to fish the Prime Bucktail wrong. It can be jigged off the bottom for weakfish, fluke, or other saltwater fish. Cast it at schooling fish working it quickly back to the boat for cobia, stripers, snook, or dolphin. It's hard to find somewhere that the Prime Bucktail won't work we carry these in 1,2,3, and 4 ounces.
That's about all for today see you at the shop...Jimmy
Kevin Merritt with Tools of the Trade stopped in the seabass action is hot right now. Book a trip and go go get some seabass!!!!
